No había manera.
My life happens in a 10-block radius. I work at home, my bakery is 7 blocks to the south, places to buy food half, 1, 3 and 5 blocks to the north, stationary and art supplies shops to a similar distance, as well as the shops that sell lovely baubles.
In that radius one can also find Julia's jewelry showroom and workshop.
Before taking the first class I thought it was going to be debut and farewell. I had the feeling I was not going easily make friends with metalwork, it was a big leap: Walking away from the sewing machine and getting closer to my dad´s workshop, full of files, welders and burnt fingers.
I found the first class very interesting but still had my doubts.
Right now, 4 months into it, I would be quite happy if Julia were to decide to cancel her vacation abroad and continued with the lessons. How will I endure a month without welding and filing and hammering and, and (well, you get the idea)
I find the work at Julia´s studio completely magical. I can´t remember having that feeling with another discipline, with photography perhaps, the developing process of copies? Yes, but no. You must experience it to understand what it is that I´m talking about. The moment when two pieces of metal become one, at least for me, is pure magic.
You can find Julia in her blog but also in his very young facebook page: Julia Alvarez Jewelry
Una de las piezas de Romina
Romina´s work
Maru concentradísima
A very focused Maru :)
Los preparativos para soldar mi arbolito
My first piece, a little tree, ready to be welded
And, finally, my most recent piece, which still need a lot of work: a cube that began as a brooche, turned into a charm and ended up as a ring.
These tiny and very confused people will be part of my next piece. I´ll probably build them a home.
